This past weekend Central Florida Racing Complex was invaded by the Xtreme Drift Circuit (XDC) drifting series as the nation’s premier Pro-Am drifting series made its third stop on their 2011 schedule. BC Racing North America had two cars competing for the crown and their chunk of the $9,000 prize purse, both on BC Racing Suspension; 2010 XDC Drift Series Champion Chelsea Denofa in his BC Racing/NST/Nexxen Tire BMW M3 and 2011 Formula Drift star Matt Waldin in his Helix Drinks Nissan 35oZ.
Qualifying showed a lot of promise for “Team BC Racing Suspension” as Chelsea Denofa found himself on top, qualifying in the number one spot with a score of 94, the only car to break into the 90s during qualifying! Matt Waldin qualified well also, landing in the 3rd spot with a score of 87, just one point behind the 2nd place qualifier!

In the Top 16 battles, Chelsea Denofa defeated Jeff Frontcakes to move onto into the Top 8 bracket. Waldin was set to face Kenny Moen in a re-match from the previous week’s Formula Drift Road Atlanta event. For those that remember, Waldin and Moen, both in very similar 350Zs went head to head at Formula Drift last week and were so close that the judges called for two consecutive “One More Time” battles before mechanical problems took Moen out of the competition. So this re-match at XDC was a shot at redemption for Moen and the pair yet again matched each other nearly seamlessly. Just like in Atlanta the judges called for a “One More Time” between Waldin and Moen with Waldin yet again getting the win and moving into the Top 8 bracket.
The Top 8 round pitted Chelsea Denofa against Brian Peter and Matt Waldin against James Evans, both drivers defeating their opponents and moving into the Final 4 bracket. In the Final 4 Denofa faced and defeated Jeremy Lowe while Waldin faced and defeated Nate Hamilton.

With both drivers sliding their way through the competition the crowd saw an all BC Racing Suspension final between Denofa and Waldin. Both drivers bring a similar aggressive style to the table providing for an intense and exciting battle. Denofa was leading for the first one with Waldin giving chase. Denofa opened a good gap into the first turn but a small mistake allowed Waldin to close that gap and stick to his door the rest of the run. For the second run, Waldin lead while Denofa gave chase. Denofa knew he had to put together a stellar performance in order to trump Waldin but unfortunately got a little too close tapping Waldin into the wall. The judges awarded Waldin the win and Denofa earned 2nd place!
The BC Racing Suspension team put on a spectacular show and the results literally don’t get any better! Congrats to both drivers for exemplary skill. You can catch Matt Waldin in action in two weeks at Palm Beach International Raceway June 3-4 for Round #3 of the 2011 Formula Drift Series. You can catch Chelsea Denofa in action June 18th at Summit Point Raceway for Round #4 of the Xtreme Drift Circuit Championship.
